Do you anticipate a visit with siblings, adult children or parents with dread or anxiety; find yourself bickering over the same issues for decades; or are you simply looking to protect yourself from further hurt?
As dysfunctional family patterns play out long after leaving home, we may discover familiar feelings playing out in new arenas. Coming to recognize and understand familial patterns both promotes healing in the family setting, and helps us form more healthy, satisfying relationships in our grown-up worlds.
In our counseling sessions we will:
- Examine family history, so as to bring understanding and context to particular dynamics and behaviors;
- Identify negative, reoccurring relational patterns and consider alternative ways to communicate;
- Explore where non-existent or blurred boundaries have contributed to ongoing conflict;
- Strengthen communication and conflict-resolution skills.
